announcement

2026 ASCE Greater China Board was released

2025 ASCE Region 10 Distinguished Lecture
Date: 18 June 2025
Time: 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm
Venue: (ID: 898 8731 4147, Password: 446402)
Registration: https://forms.office.com/r/ZWFzqaChxd?origin=lprLink
Activities: This lecture introduces advanced numerical modeling techniques for predicting geotechnical failures and geohazards, including landslides, debris flows, and infrastructure collapses, in an era of climate uncertainty. We will demonstrate how established methods such as the Finite Element Method (FEM), Material Point Method (MPM), Discrete Element Method (DEM), and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) effectively address challenges in simulating soil-structure interactions, multi-phase fluid-solid coupling, and cascading hazard dynamics. We emphasize the importance of hybrid approaches to overcome limitations in capturing complex multiphysics and nonlinear material behavior associated with various failure patterns. This understanding is crucial for tackling the complexities of geotechnical failures and illustrates how advanced numerical modeling can bridge theoretical insights with actionable insights for resilient geotechnical design and disaster preparedness.

2025 ASCE Region 10 Governor-elect
News: Among the elected ASCE officials, we happily noticed that we have Dr Chao Li elected from ASCE Greater China. He is now the ASCE Region 10 Governor-elect 2025-2028. ASCE Region 10 is the home of ASCE international members. It is directly connected with ASCE headquarters and is playing a more than ever important role, as ASCE is increasingly becoming a global community for its members. Dr Chao Li is the ASCE Hong Kong Section President of 2016-2017. He is a key proponent and founder for upgrading of ASCE Hong Kong Section to ASCE Greater China Section. He received a PhD degree from Stanford University and BE degree from Tsinghua University. He has rich experience of two decades in design, construction, and research & development.
We would like to congratulate Dr Li as the ASCE Region 10 Governor-elect; and we are looking forward to seeing him playing an important role of facilitating communication and collaboration of engineering communities between China and the US using ASCE as an important platform.
